Founders Note

I’m Mary Jane Guevarra, founder of HUMNK1ND.

I was born and raised in the Philippines, and Canada is home now.HUMNK1ND is built as a global idea with a local backbone: made local, paid local, empowered local. We start in Canada to prove the standard here first, with accountability, fair work, and measurable impact. Our goal is to replicate this philosophy not only back in the Philippines, but throughout the world, supporting local communities wherever HUMNK1ND exists.

HUMNK1ND is a reminder there’s only one humankind. One world. One people.

I started HUMNK1ND because I believe the way something is made matters. Clothing should honor the people behind it, with fair work, care, and dignity. We choose restraint over noise, and intention over speed. I’ve seen in the Philippines what clothing waste looks like up close, bales of unwanted clothing, used and even new. The more I learned, the clearer it became that this is not local, it is global.

Our essentials are designed to last for decades. Heavyweight fabrics. Disciplined construction. Fits that don’t chase trends. HUMNK1ND is for people who want fewer garments, made better, worn longer.

Human First is our foundation. When we make product in Canada, we commit to supporting the people here through fair work and a living wage. As we expand into other countries, the same standard will apply. We will only grow where we can build the full loop with integrity, produce locally, pay fairly locally, and keep value circulating in the communities we serve.

We also work to keep our footprint low by sourcing fabrics and materials as close to the country of manufacture as possible. As supply chains improve and shift, we pivot, choosing closer, cleaner options without compromising quality.

We also believe what we sell should give something real back. That’s why for every shirt sold, we donate one new HUMNK1ND shirt in Canada through trusted community partners. As we grow into new markets, our giving follows the same principle: local impact, delivered locally.

And we are intentionally pro human in a world that is quickly automating everything. We keep our creative work human, by choice. Our designs, imagery, and words are made by people. HUMNK1ND is a commitment to people, to restraint, and to real work you can stand behind.
